Adrian Williams, from Ty Pin Coed, wrote his name in ILS history this month by becoming the latest winner of the annual ILS Pool Tournament. Previous winners include Amanda Jane Davies and Tony Carrington, but nothing could be done to stop Adrian becoming this years deserved champion.
Adrian’s path to glory was not an easy one though. The first hurdle was a quarter final against former champion Tony Carrington, which Adrian managed to win from a losing position. Next up was a semi final against Giuliano (who got the staff wild-card). With ever increasing fluency, Adrian managed to win by a comfortable margin and claim his place in the 2018 final.
The final itself was against the bookies favourite JJ, also from Ty Pin Coed. JJ had beaten Dawid and John on his way to the final with some superb potting, so the scene was set for an exciting final.
As is often the way, the final was a close and edgy game with both players missing easy pots. Maybe the pressure was beginning to show, but eventually the balls began to sink and Adrian managed to pot the final black with JJ still several balls behind.
Hand shakes all round underlined the excellent spirit in which the tournament was played and there were plenty of smiles when Adrian was presented his first prize by ILS Managing Director Ann Bateman at head office the following week.
Tournament organisers (Emily and her team) deserve a pat on the back for providing a delicious buffet and a welcoming atmosphere. Everyone is looking forward to doing it again next year where Adrian will attempt to become the first person to successfully defend their title.
Thanks and well done to everyone who took part - you’re all winners in our eyes!
