Bowling Bonanza

This week saw the annual ILS Bowls Tournament at the Excel Bowling centre in Carmarthen and everyone deserves a pat on the back. From the venue, the ILS staff and the service user participants, it was a brilliant afternoon for all of us who were lucky enough to be there.

On arrival you could tell it was going to be a good day, as most were in an excited mood ahead of the competitive fun that was to follow. The day did have it's moments, but ILS staff took control and some potentially difficult situations were averted. Slowly explaining the rules, keeping certain individuals apart and dishing out heaps of encouragement did the trick. Excel staff also played their part by being on hand when we needed them and nothing was too much trouble.

With refreshments to hand the bowling didn't let us down. Strikes, spares and near misses provided ample entertainment, not to mention the individual celebrations. Everyone did really well. As it turned out, the winner was decided on the very last round and it couldn't have been closer or much more exciting. Going into the final round level pegging with Adrian, JJ looked to have won it easily with some excellent play but Adrian then produced some late magic and came within 1 point of winning himself. Third place was hotly contested throughout the event, with Tom just pipping Dawid, Tony, Jason, Barrie and Amanda in the end.

What a great way to start the Easter holidays!
